Are you like me, and no matter how many or few you buy, you always end up with bananas hanging around too long?? When they’re past their prime, toss them in the freezer. Then pull them out for cool ops like this one…
My wondering just what to do with said bananas, other than baking with them, has led to this most refreshing sipper. With the bananas in your freezer, you are ready to make this cool & nutritious beverage, anytime~
This is tasty and good for you (but you don’t have to mention that part) – making it ideal as a boost for anytime of day, including breakfast. Even if you think you don’t have time, this can be whipped up in minutes. If you’re really in a rush to get out the door for work, school or practice…. pour it into something and take it with you. You’ll be glad you did.
If you don’t have a blender, an immersion blender will work as well – just be sure the container you’re blending in is deep enough.
Chocolate Banana Smoothie
While I usually don’t like banana in liquid form, in this combo it works for me. You can really play with the outcome by using different flavoured yogurts or adding a spoon of peanut butter. You really can customize these to your liking, but be sure to start with the chocolate milk – better for you than most people think~
1 cup low fat chocolate milk
1 banana, very ripe (if you freeze the banana, you’ll need less ice)
1/4 cup low fat yogurt
3 – 4 ice cubes
pinch cocoa powder
*add other fruits like raspberries or strawberries for even more Taste & nutrition~
**make it thicker with more yogurt
With a blender: simply add all ingredients and blend until smooth.
With an immersion blender: add all ingredients in a tall, narrow container or pitcher and blend, while moving the immersion blender up and down. Be careful to not lift the blender too high – or you will be cleaning your kitchen!
Taste and adjust the texture as needed: more yogurt for extra zing, ice for thickness or more milk if too thick. Pour into a pretty glass and enjoy.
